8 steps to a positive 2012.

I’m not a fan of New Year’s resolutions, but I understand where people are coming from when they set them.

Now we’ve got through the madness of Christmas, and the excess of the New Year, many of us take this time to access our lifestyles and start setting personal goals for the year ahead of us.

The only problem is people often go about it the wrong way, making some serious mistakes which are doomed from the beginning!
So here are my tips to help you kick off your 2012 on the right track…..

  1. Make your goals realistic. Don’t go crazy, aim for something you can achieve, or if its a BIG goals, chop it down in to smaller (short-term) goals.
  2. Start your exercise programme NOW. Not next week, not in February because you’ll have more time. Do it now!
  3. Train regularly. Once a week won’t cut it. You need to be active at least every other day. It sounds corny but build activity in to your daily schedule and you’ll be burning more calories as you take the stair instead of the elevator, cycle to work, etc.
  4. Check out cycle scheme! To help with number 3! http://www.cyclescheme.co.uk/
  5. Clean up your diet NOW. Throw out any of the following from your cupboards/ fridge and you’ll be on the right path: dairy, wheat, sugar, alcohol, caffeine, artificial additives, anything which has words in the ingredients list which you can pronounce! Try this for 28 days and watch the fat FALL off you and see how amazing you’ll feel!
  6. Try something new. This is an ideal time to start that hobby you’ve always been putting off. Try a new sport, get in to a creative art, try a new class do something different! Challenge yourself- you only live once!
  7. Surround yourself with positive people. People who will support your goals and help you get closer to them. Now is a good time to erase the numbers (or at least ignore) of the people who lead you astray and invite you to the pub every Friday night.
  8. If at first you don’t succeed- get back on the horse! I know so many people who start with good intentions, then abort mission as soon as they hit a hurdle or fail. Dust yourself off and get back on it! If you fail again, repeat until you hit your target. In my experience those that are successful in life are those that persevere.

New Year’s Eve Workout- routine.

Nothing beats getting in the gym before it opens! Ideal for this little routine on New Year’s Eve morning…… give it a go to finish off your 2011 with a blast!

Male: use 20kg Kettlebell (or 24kg if 90kg + in weight)

Female: use 12kg Ketlebell (or 16kg if experienced)

5 rounds of:

  • 300 metre row- level 10 (in around 1 minute)
  • Run 50 metres (to another room where Kettlebells are waiting)
  • 6 X 1-arm swing (left, then right)
  • 6 X cleans (left/ right)
  • 6 X thrusters (left/ right)
  • 6 X snatches (left/ right)
  • Run 50 metres (back to rower)

Wicked workout which should only take you 30 minutes to complete!

5kg of fat lost and 2.5 inches off her waist!

Week 1 of Guaranteed Results Bootcamp is a success!

Seven days ago sixteen keen individuals started their detox and training programmes as part of the Guaranteed Results Bootcamp!

Lasting 28 days, each participant has embarked on a journey of self- discovery and for many a major step in making positive changes to their health, fitness and wellbeing!

Each participant was weighed, bodyfat percentage and mass tested and waist circumference measured. These will be re-measured once the programme has finished to monitor results.

Everyone is following a detox diet which eliminates the major toxins from the diet to allow them to see how it affects them when they are reintroduced after the 28 day period.

The toxins we are avoiding include:

  • Wheat
  • Sugar
  • Alcohool
  • Caffeine
  • Dairy
  • All artificial additives and sweetners.

During this time, they will be training at least three times a week using Kettlebells, bodyweight, TRX, tyres and ropes for a huge boost in metabolism at two locations in Brighton (Varndean School)  & Hove (ZT Fitness).

After a rough week, where the body adjusts to the new way of eating most participants have complained of lethargy, bad skin, bad mood, trouble sleeping and waking, and headaches.

This shows the toxins are leaving the body, and how addicted everyone was to the toxins.

For many participants this is the first time they will abstain from alcohol for a whole month!

In this coming week, everyone will start to feel the benefits of the programme, with:

  • improved concentration
  • increased energy levels
  • improved sleep
  • improved complexion
  • better moods
  • beginning to lose bodyfat- although its still early-days!
  • Increased levels of fitness
  • improved muscle tone and strength
  • and finally……increased Sex drive!
